     I love putting my food to good use. Healthy food cleanses and energizes your body and brings clarity to your skin. But most importantly, healthy food supplies your body with powerful minerals and nutrients that are proven to strengthen your immune system.

     Healthy eating provides your body with the antioxidants it needs to fight off harmful molecules (called free radicals) that due real damage to your cells. We encounter these free radicals everyday. They're in air pollution, and in the chemicals filled products that we use daily. After continual exposure to these free radicals, our body's immune system can begin to weaken. This is when we start to get sick.  

     We all know how it goes, someone at the office or at school comes in with a sniffle and a cough and soon everyone around us has come down with it. Wouldn't you love to know that your immune system is in tip top shape and therefore you won't be nearly as effected by this "bug" as everyone else? 

     I began my healthy eating lifestyle a little over one year ago. I'm still waiting to have even one single cold, or day of feeling "under the weather". Yet some people around me have complained about having their colds for a week or more. Especially now that it's cold and flu season it's time for you to realize how effective eating healthy can be for you and your health. 

     Here are some great foods to include in your diet that will provide you with the right vitamins and minerals to properly address a cold and prevent any others from invading your health.

Vitamin C- Antioxidant

  • Red Bell Pepper

  • Broccoli

(Eat these raw or flash steamed for best results)

Vitamin A- Improves Immune System

  • Sweet Potatoes 

Vitamin B6- Makes Antibodies (fights disease)

  • Garbanzo Beans AKA Chickpeas (Hummus Please!)

Vitamin E- Fights Free Radicals

  • Sunflower Seeds

Garlic, honey, lemon

Many different cultures highly recommend using this tea to cure colds and stop their symptoms.

  • The garlic stops coughing and doubles as a decongestant.
  • The lemon eliminates thick mucus.
  • Honey helps immune systems fight off infections.

 

 

  1. In a large saucepan, bring 3 cups of water and 3 cloves of garlic (cut in half) to a boil.
  2. Turn off the heat when the water boils
  3. Add 1/2 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice.
  4. Strain.
  5. Sip 1/2 cup, warm, three times a day.
  6. Refrigerate extra to use the next day.
